February is HOTTER THAN EVER for (H)EAT-related Events!

Hello all - I'm just now surfacing after the amazing premiere of A Winter's Tale at the Red Door last month - we sold the place out in less than 3 minutes! Raised over $500 for the campaign and for the venue both!

Thanks to all who came out for it, and for those who came out but couldn't get in!

Below are some dates to be aware of in this last month of the campaign - it's our best month yet for great events, and we hope you'll continue to join us for a month's worth of dancing, storytelling and stretching at the Sheraton! Yes, the Yoga Mala Returns!

To wit:

Friday, February 5th, The Press Room, Portsmouth 9pm:
DJ Bruce will be upstairs spinning a Mardi Gras Dance Party starting at 9pm, and going until the beads burst. $5 suggested donation with all proceeds benefiting the (H)EAT Campaign. Come out and get your swamp gator zydeco on!

Sunday, February 7th, Portsmouth Sheraton Harborside, 250 Market St. 9am - Noon: The Yoga Mala Returns! Join 10 local yoga studios in a marathon Sunlight Salutation meditation to benefit (H)EAT! Registration is available at the door for $25.00 - get there by 8:30am at the latest!

This was an amazing event last year, the largest of the campaign, and news has it that it's a sellout again this year! Come out and join hundreds of other yoga enthusiasts to create a better world for people in need this winter!

Sunday, February 21st, The Red Door, Portsmouth 7pm - 9pm:
A Winter's Tale returns to the stage for the second evening of this three-event series at the Red Door, 107 State Street in Portsmouth.

This storytelling series took the Seacoast by storm last month and played to an SRO house at the venue - the evening begins at 7pm SHARP, so get there early as seating is on a "first come-first served" basis. $5 cover at the door with all proceeds going to the (H)EAT Campaign.

The Serfs Play, People Dance and Donate, Life Is Good!

This past Friday night saw The Serfs play another huge show at the Press Room here in town, and the (H)EAT Campaign was on hand to raise awareness about the need for food and fuel donations for people on the Seacoast.

The mood was upbeat, the dance floor was packed, and the (H)EAT Campaign picked up another $300 in donations from the crowd. That makes the total so far from the Press Room Events Series a whopping $700, from just two shows!

Not only that, but we also heard from many people who want to volunteer and contribute directly to being a part of the 2010 (H)EAT Campaign's continued success! We can always use the help, so when you see the (H)EAT table at the Press Room, let us know you're out there!

A huge thank you to everyone who went to the show, bought our t-shirts, and donated. You are all making December a fantastic month for this campaign, and you are a big reason why the Seacoast stays committed to making sure everyone has a safe, warm and healthy holiday season!

Up Next At The Press Room (H)EAT Series In December:

Sunday, 12/13 - The Seacoast Big Band, show starts at 6pm - 9pm. $10 cover.
Wednesday 12/16 - The Dan Blakeslee Christmas Show! No cover.
Sunday, 12/20 - The Press Room's Jazz Holiday Show! $10 cover.

If you'd like to table for these events (pron. free admission!), let us know: send an e-mail to info@heat-eat.org and we'll get you upstairs!

Seacoast Local's Buy Local Week A Huge Success for (H)EAT and Local Businesses!

Seacoast Local kicked off the holiday season with Buy Local Week, and it was an enormous success for both the (H)EAT Campaign and local businesses. Several small business owners in downtown Portsmouth reported that they had increased shopping visits from last year and G. Willikers Toyshop said that their business increased by a whopping 10 percent over last year at this time.

In addition, WMUR - Manchester stopped by on Wednesday for a quick interview, and to talk up the benefits of shopping locally.

Our local Portsmouth business community was uniformly upbeat, positive and proud that they had participated in this years event.

Thank you to all the local businesses and customers who are making the 10% Shift, and to everyone who shopped or will continue to shop locally this holiday season. Your participation keeps the Seacoast a vital, vibrant and economically thriving region for all who live and work here.

(H)EAT 2010 Blazes Through November With Over $1,000 Raised!

The 2010 (H)EAT Campaign blazed through November with over $1,000 raised through food and monetary donations. Both private citizens and local businesses stepped up to get the campaign off to a fantastic start!

The Pease n' Carrots Food Drive has donated over 800 lbs. of food so far, with another 50 lbs. picked up from South Church during the Novella Carpenter reading, sponsored by RiverRun Bookstore. Also, the fine folks over at Simply Green Biofuels are offering 5 cents off per gallon of gasoline, B5 BioDiesel or B20 BioDiesel for a donation of 5 non-perishable food items.

Not only that, but the Re-store in Dover is offering 1% off per 1 can of donated, non-perishable food items - up to 20% off!

And not only did we do fantastically with food donations, we also raised nearly $300 at the Press Room for our Kick-Off Reception, with big thanks going out to Bruce Pingree for hosting the event, and also to Big Red for providing fantastic Texas Swing music and sporting the cool (H)EAT swag that was on offer at our merch table.

December is filled with more great events at the Press Room, starting with this Friday, when The Serfs are in town! Get there early, this is a guaranteed sellout, SRO event. And make sure you look for us at the (H)EAT table to find out more about how YOU can keep people healthy and warm this holiday season. The show starts at 9pm, with a $7 cover, but you definitely want to be there early.

So come back to our site and find out more about what (H)EAT is up to during the month of December! And it won't stop there - we already have several events happening in the New Year as well, DJ Dance Parties, and the Return of the Mighty Yoga Mala in February!
